Located only 15 min drive from Tornio city center you find a little riverside gem right at the heart of the local fishing culture.
Kukkolankoski on Finnish side and Kukkolaforsen on Swedish side, it is the name of Kukkolarapids of Torne River. These rapids are the core of the local fishing culture, where whitefish are caught with landing nets, “lippo” in Finnish. The fish caught is still divided between the households of the village, according to an ancient tradition.
Kukkolankoski Resort is like its own riverside fishing village with traditional red and yellow houses with accommodation, a large log house as its center, hosting Restaurant Pohjolan Pirtti and right by the rivershore the famous Siikakartano, hosting a restaurant and saunas. There is also a riverside hut where the traditional whitefish dinners are served, just the way they always have been served.
Most safaris start from Kukkola Resort, so it is a true center of experiences. Here you can enjoy all seasons right in the heart of Torne Valley’s traditional landscapes and close to the heritage and borderless life.
